1969 Turbo Spider

Beyond Restoration? Then Restore Beyond!

This is where it starts..Tubular Space Frame construction to replace the original unibody construction.

The door pillar / windshield area, and rear deck / trunk area was grafted to the new frame.

Original suspension pieces fit perfectly on new frame. Gemoetry is key and difficult to maintain.

Fiberglass fenders from Smoothline.

Aluminum Diamond plate sheet from a local metal supplier.

New steel quarter panels from Bruces Parts bin.

Fenders bolted  / Epoxied onto frame. Diamond plate engine compartment pieces test fitted.

Rear Quarter panels welded on, Kirkey Racing Seats, and 16” Wheels test fitted.

Notice how light the car is with no engine in it.

Here you can see the Carbon Fiber composite hood I made for the car.

There were no good hoods available. So I made one myself.

The hood mold I fabricated from fiberglass composites. Molded from a borrowed 1974 hood.

I love the small bumps but hated the big ones on later models.

Reinforced with wood to keep the geometry in line.

I still have this mold stashed away just in case.

Fresh out of the mold.

Amazing how strong this is with no sub structure at all.. I think the shape of the spiders hood is part of the strength.

Ball bearing hinges being attached to the under side of the hood. A layer of heavy duty fiberglass was layed up on the under side of the hood. In order to make it non conductive, and support mounting of hardware.

Test fitted..

I bought these straight and solid doors from a FIAT friend locally..

Thanks Pablo!!!

Doors were sand blasted and coated in por15.

Before I started all of this I sent out the block and head for rebuilding, Custom forged pistons from JE Piston took over a year to get. Round groves were machined into the block to accept stainless steel orings. The engine was built to handle 22 psi of boost.. Way more than I’ll ever apply to it.
