The 8v project was started in 1994 soon after purchase of a 124 CC that
had been sitting under a tree for 7 years. This is what it looked like
when purchased.

The car was stripped and sandblasted to this.........

The car was then sent to TRANSFORM panel and paint, where it had it's
application of Spies Hecker 2 Pack. FIAT Bordeaux applied. The standard
1.8 litre engine was decompressed, and remained internally stock. The
engine wasn't even started before it was decided to build a REAL 2litre
turbo engine.

First a permit was required for government approval of such a engine power
up.
The a trip to Automotive Sports Engineering. Where the 8V engine build
took place.

The block was bored to 84.8mm and o-rings installed. The crank's welch
plugs were removed and refitted with grub screws. The Pistons are Forged
8.0:1 Compression.

The head is from a US spider. These feature a open combustion chamber
which helps reduce detonation. The exhaust valves were enlarged 2mm. The
cams are 26/66/66//26 10.5mm lift.

The engine bolted together

The engine in the car, with quad 50mm throttle bodies, 8 injectors (300cc
each) External oil filter. HUGE T4 turbo (550bhp) ex-cosworth sierra.

The engine was very powerful compared to a stock 124. close to 200bhp
was developed at the rear wheels. The engine was very rough to drive,
around town it really choked. When full throttle was applied it was a
different story, the engine sang to it's red line and provided 3000 kilometres
of joy and fun.

The engine was then sold to a friend, who placed the engine in a 124 BC,
removed the throttle bodies, and placed a 3d fuel injection computer on
(wolf 3d) the result was a much friendlier engine off boost, and smoother
on boost characteristics. Check out pics of the car now in the FIAT FANS
section.
More pics i've unearthed of this timeless beast!
